There are two types of Japanese language proficiency tests  that you can choose to get a  Tokutei Ginou/Specified Skilled Workers  (SSW) visa . What are the two types of tests, let's read this article to the end.

Arky's friends who want to work in Japan must have heard the term  Tokutei Ginou/Specified Skilled Workers .  A type of work visa for foreign workers so they can  work in Japan  with the same rights and obligations as Japanese workers.

Well, to get a  Tokutei Ginou visa , one of the requirements is that migrant workers must pass  the Japanese language test . The Japanese language test for  Tokutei Ginou workers is divided into two types, namely  JLPT and JFT-Basi c. In this article, ArkaLearn will discuss these two types of Japanese language tests.

2 Types of Japanese Language Proficiency Tests to Get a Tokutei Ginou Visa

1) JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test)

JLPT  is a Japanese language proficiency test organized by the Japan Foundation. This exam is held in Japan and countries outside Japan. The purpose of this test is to see the  Japanese language  skills of people who are not native  Japanese speakers. Later, JLPT  graduation certification  can be used as one of the requirements to continue studying or working in Japan.

JLPT  itself has levels, starting from the basic level N5 to the top N1. Well, to get a  Tokutei Ginou visa , you must at least pass  JLPT N4 . By being declared to have passed  JLPT N4  , you have the following qualifications:

  • Able to read and understand sentences about daily life written using kanji and basic vocabulary.
  • Understand most of the content of everyday life conversations spoken slowly.

Then,  the JLPT N4 test  for  Tokutei Ginou  is divided into three parts, namely:

  • 30 minutes for Japanese knowledge (letters and vocabulary).
  • 60 minutes for language knowledge (sentences and sentence patterns).
  • 30 minutes for listening session.

The JLPT exam  is held twice a year, every July and December. To take the JLPT test, you can access the official website at  jlptonline.or.id .

2) JFT-Basic

JFT-Basic  is a Japanese language proficiency test specifically designed for migrant workers/SSWs who will work in Japan. Unlike JLPT,  JFT-Basic  only has one level, A2.

The test also focuses more on daily Japanese language skills that can help in everyday life. By passing  JFT-Basic  , you have the following qualifications:

  • Understand sentences and expressions frequently used in daily life, such as basic information about yourself and your family, where you live, your job, and so on.
  • Can exchange information about general conditions occurring around them.
  • Able to explain in simple language important things around him, such as his own background and condition.

The JFT-Basic exam  uses a computer-based method including listening tests and answering questions that appear on the computer screen. The answers or choices are in Japanese, while the explanation of the questions is in English or Indonesian, adjusted to the location where the  JFT-Basic  exam takes place.

The questions are divided into four parts: letters and vocabulary, conversation and expressions, listening and reading with a response time of 60 minutes.

The JFT-Basic exam  is held six times a year. To take the JFT-Basic test, you can access the official website at  https://www.jpf.go.jp/jft-basic/e/ .

So, to get a Tokutei Ginou/Specified Skilled Workers  (SSW)  visa, you only need to pass one of the above tests, namely  JLPT N4 or JFT-Basic A2 .
